Last summer me and my girlfriend Elisa decided to spend our summer holidays cruising to the FBI. This was our first long distance ride.
First I had to build a bike for the trip. My PG Streetfighters frame had broken in several places, so my best (as it turned out) option was to build my own frame. It took a few weeks, and I got it ready just a day before we left. This trip was my bikes maiden voyage.
Had a few beers in Helsinki before leaving
The guys were making shure we get on the ferry
...and of we go
We came by ferry to Rostock. It takes 26 hours from Helsinki, and is really, really boring. Expecially when your credit card does not work on board... We came to Rostock in the middle of the night and went "camping" on the outskirts of the town. Rode about 20 km that night.
This is where we spend our first night in Germany.
Day 1. Rostock - Satow - Wismar
Distance 74 km, Av. speed 13,3, Time riden 5h 31 min
The wind was pretty heavy all the way. Later we found out that it allmost constantly blows from the west and that that is why people tend to ride from wes to east. Shit... Well you get used to it.
Stopped in Satow for lunch and beers. When we got to Wismar, ti started to rain pretty much, so we stayed in a nice pension.
The wrong kind of a map in Satow
Wismar before the rain
Day 2. Wismar - Gramlow - Grevesmühler - Dassow - Trawemünde
Distance 67 km, Av. speed 14,7, Time riden: about 4 hours
We tried to follow a bicycle route to Lübeck, but without a proper routemap, it turned out to be impossible. We did a 10 km wrong turn and ended up in Trawemünde in stead of Lübeck. Did not matter that much because we found a nice campingplace.
Fine dining on the road
Trawemünde
Don't make too many plans for your trip. It will all come together on the road.
Day 3. Trawemünde - Lübeck
Distance 15 km
We desided to stay in Lübeck for the night and sample some local beers.
There is a fucking big church in Lübeck
Beer and sausages... om om om om omom om omomo
Day 4. Lübeck - Mölln - Trittau - Großesee
Distance 70 km, Av. speed 14.1, Time riden 4h 58 min
I lost our map (probably in a pub), so we had to buy a new one. Got a ADFC Radtouren karte that showed all the official and regional routes.
Followed the Lübeck-Elbe canal to Mölln. What an exelent route to ride, all flat and straigt. No cars or other people.
The weather was really hot. Like millions of degrees, or something...
Day 5. Großesee - Hamburg
Distance 36km, Av. speed Slow because of the heat, Time riden about 2 or 3 hours
Got to Hamburg, took the A&O Hostel near the Central railway station.
We went to see Michi at the Elbcoast Customs and had beers... Nice stuff.
We spend two nights in Hamburg just resting and samplig local beers ( again)
Crazy-ass citybikes
Went to see the largest miniatyre railroad in the world. This is their version of Finland. No penguins?
Two handsome devils
Sightseeing
Packing for the road
To be continued...
